SOUTH AFRICA
BLESS THE RAINS DOWN IN AFRICA
Embarking on a safari in South Africa is on the travel bucket list for many a traveler. The untamed expanses of the bushveld, the quiet luxury of the remote safari lodges and the utter wildness of nature all combine to create a magical experience like no other.
To top it off, Cape Town feels like Portugal and California had a child that’s cool af, the Winelands are beautiful (and delicious) and there is an intense cultural history in South Africa that visitors are able to learn about on their travels.
See our talented team of Tastemakers in South Africa - we can’t recommend them enough!
There are certain countries where we at The Citrine Compass will recommend a little support when planning your trip. This is usually due to the complexity of logistics, the exclusivity of properties or the remoteness of the destination. Africa is one of those places!
Our South African Tastemakers meet The CC gold standard and are ready to consult but they can also handle the booking of your trip soup to nuts.

EXPERTISE | Outdoor Adventure + Unique Travel
PROFILE | Born in Johannesburg, Lauren made the move down to Cape Town in 2014 to pursue a career in travel. Since then she has launched a successful travel blog highlighting the road-less-traveled in South Africa, explored 40+ countries and ticked almost everything off her South Africa bucket list. She also hosts guided tours and retreats both locally in South Africa and globally.
On the weekends, you'll find her discovering new eateries around Cape Town, tackling one of the 30+ hiking routes up Table Mountain, attending one of Cape Town’s festivals or exploring the lesser-known wine routes and small towns around the Western Cape.
What are the best wine routes in and around Cape Town? While Franschhoek and Stellenbosch are firm favorites, I'd recommend exploring the Robertson wine route. It's a 2-hour drive from Cape Town but is home to the best Chardonnay in the country and along the way, you can stop at Rawsonville (also known as Chenin Valley) to try some of SA’s finest Chenin Blanc.
Favorite locals-only spots in Cape Town? Open Wine is the best place in town to grab a delicious bottle of wine, catch up with friends, and listen to live music. For a dining experience that comes with special effects (think over-the-top food presentation), book a table at Soi Bar. If you love your gin and hole-in-the-wall bars, go inside Honest Chocolate and discover the hidden gin bar at the back of the café.
